Cricut Joy Xtra Software

Cricut Design Space is the official software for Cricut machines, including Joy Xtra. This software allows users to create, edit, and send designs to the machine for cutting, writing, drawing, and a range of other functions. 

However, this software can experience certain issues, such as lagging and freezing while in use, being unable to load, or failing to detect the Cricut Joy Xtra machine. 

Problem 1: Design Space Is Unable to Load

The Design Space software may experience issues when loading on a computer. It occurs when the application is out of date, and the cache and cookies interfere with loading. Resolve this issue with these solutions. 

Solution 1: Clear the Browser Cache and Cookies

Cache and cookies can interfere with the Design Space loading by providing outdated information, errors, and preventing updates from being applied. Clear the data using these steps: 

1. Open a browser such as Chrome on your PC. 
2. Click the three dots at the top right and select “Delete browsing data.” 
3. Select cached images and files, browsing history and cookies, and other sites’ data. 
4. Finally, click the Delete button. 

Check if the Design Space opens on the computer after deleting the browser’s history and data. If not, try out the next method. 

Solution 2: Uninstall and Reinstall the Design Space

If the Design Space experiences issues loading on your computer, consider uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Here are the steps. 

Step 1: Uninstall 

1. Click the Start button on the computer’s taskbar and search for Settings. 
2. Click Apps from the left sidebar under Settings. 
3. Select the “Installed Apps” or “Programs & Features” option. 
4. Locate Cricut Design Space, click the three dots next to it, and click on Uninstall. 

Step 2: Reinstall 

1. Navigate to design.cricut.com on an internet browser on your computer. 
2. Type Cricut Joy Xtra machine in the search box. 
3. Check the box to accept Cricut Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. 
4. Click the Download process to start downloading the software. 
5. Locate the Design Space file in your Downloads folder and double-click. 
6. Click Run to allow it to make changes to your PC. 
7. Let the installation process begin and proceed to completion. 

Note: Don’t shut down or turn off the PC during the installation process. 

Problem 2: Design Space Runs Slowly

Cricut Design Space can run slowly, lag, or freeze during work due to any of these reasons: 

• The internet connection is poor. 
• Multiple apps or programs are opened simultaneously on the PC. 
• The Design Space app is outdated. 

Due to these problems, creating a design on the canvas takes longer than usual, and the screen freezes frequently during work. However, addressing these issues will enable this app to reach its full potential. 

Solution 1: Check the Internet Connection

If the Design Space was working fine earlier, and suddenly slowed down, the internet connection might be interrupted. In this situation, run an online speed test on the computer. Type internet speed test, and it’ll show if the network connection is weak. 

If the internet speed is lower than required, restart the WiFi router using these steps: 

1. Disconnect the router from the main power switch. 
2. Wait 1-2 minutes and then reconnect the router to the power source. 

Check if there is improvement in the Design Space. If the issue persists, check out the next troubleshooting method. 

Solution 2: Close the Other Programs

If the PC has other programs open, such as Photoshop or video editing software, the Design Space may be disrupted and stop working altogether. Hence, consider closing the other programs and see if the Design Space works better now. 

However, if the issue persists, the primary issue is outdated software. Check out the next method to fix the problem. 

Solution 3: Update the Design Space 

If the Design Space is still lagging, freezing, or running slowly, update it using these steps: 

1. First of all, save the project you’re working on by clicking the Save button on the PC. 
2. Open the Design Space on your computer, and check the bell icon located at the top right corner, along with the profile icon. 
3. Check for any update notifications. Click ‘Install now’ if there is an update available.
4. If no updates are available, click the Settings menu and click General. 
5. Click “check for updates” under the About Design Space option. 
6. Click the “Update” or “Install Now” option to start the installation. 

Design Space will automatically install the new version. 

Note: Cricut offers timely updates in the Design Space. Hence, users must check these updates and update the software to prevent it from slowing down. 

Problem 3: Design Space Fails to Recognize Cricut Joy Xtra

Sometimes the Design Space fails to recognize the Cricut machine and doesn’t process cutting or any other function. It usually happens when the machine is not powered on properly or the connection between the machine and the device is disturbed. Here are the solutions. 

Solution 1: Check if the Machine Is Powered On

When the Cricut machine is not powered on properly from the main switch, the Design Space doesn’t recognize it. Plug the machine into another power socket. If the Design Space still doesn’t recognize the machine, check the next method. 

Solution 2: Check the Machine’s Connection

Verify that the Cricut Joy Xtra and the computer are properly connected via a USB cable. Tighten the cable if it seems loose. If the machine is connected via Bluetooth, remove and then reconnect the machine to the device using these steps: 

1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, and then search for “Settings.” 
2. Select Bluetooth & Devices from the left sidebar and check the Cricut Joy Xtra as the connected device. 
3. Click the Remove button next to it, wait for a few seconds, and then select the machine again to reconnect. 

Finally, the Design Space will recognize the Cricut machine.
