To start using your brand new Silhouette Portrait 4 machine, you have to go through an initial setup process. First, download and install the Silhouette Studio software on your Windows or Mac device. Then, power on the machine and connect it to the computer. Here’s the complete process in detail.

Step 1: Download & Install the Silhouette Studio Software

Silhouette Studio is the official Silhouette America software. You need it on your computer to give commands to a Silhouette machine.

  1. Go to silhouetteamerica.com/setup on your computer.
  2. From the list of All Machines, select Portrait 4.
  3. Now, you’ll see a four-step guide to Portrait 4 setup. Follow all three points mentioned in the “Step 1: Setup machine” tab to get your machine ready for setup, and go to the next step.
  4. Here you’ll find the Silhouette Studio download links for both Windows and Mac. Select the correct operating system based on your computer type to start the download process.
  5. Once downloaded, install it just like any other software.

Step 2: Connect the Machine to Your Computer

Here’s how to connect Silhouette Portrait 4 to the PC.

  1. Press and hold the Power button for about 2 to 3 seconds or until the machine turns on.
  2. Now, you’ll see the Bluetooth button flashing in blue. This means that the machine is available and ready to connect. If it isn’t flashing, Bluetooth is off. Press it to turn it on.
  3. Launch Silhouette Studio on the computer and click the Send button at the top right corner.
  4. Now Silhouette Studio will scan and show you a list of available machines. Select Portrait 4 to connect.
  5. If a Firmware Update Available option comes up, simply click Update Now.
  6. Once the connection is complete, the light on the Bluetooth button will stop flickering and will keep flowing.

Note: Keep the Portrait 4 machine close to your computer for the best connection possible.

Step 3: Register Your Portrait 4

To get access to the free designs and 1 month Silhouette Store subscription that come with a new Portrait 4 machine, create an account on Silhouette Studio.

  1. In Silhouette Studio, sign up for a new account. If you already have a Silhouette account, sign in.
  2. Then, go to the “Register a NEW Machine” section and enter your machine’s serial number and purchase information, and click Continue to proceed. If you’re unable to find the serial number, it is located behind the cutter.
  3. Silhouette Studio will automatically detect your machine as Portrait 4. Just click the “Register My Machine” button.
  4. Once registered successfully, go to the Library section by clicking the top-right button and sign in to your account.

Once this is done, you’ll receive 100 free cut files in your Silhouette Studio’s Library tab. And the Silhouette Portrait 4 setup is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
