Setting up a Silhouette Curio 2 includes installing the Silhouette Studio software and connecting the machine to a computer via USB or Bluetooth. Step 1: Unpack the Machine
Since the machine is brand new, it should be unpacked carefully. Remove all the protective tapes and materials from the machine. Check the accessories included in the box, such as the USB cable, power cord, AC adapter, electrostatic bed, auto blade, and masking tape.
Then, connect the machine to a power outlet.
Step 2: Download & Install Silhouette Studio Application
Silhouette Studio is an official application for all the Silhouette machines, including Curio 2. The application allows users to create and edit the designs, then send them to the machine for cutting and other tasks. It can be installed from Silhouette’s official website. Here are the instructions to install it.
- Visit silhouetteamerica.com/silhouette-studio on an internet browser.
- Select your operating system to download the Silhouette Studio application.
- Wait for the software to download, visit the downloads folder, and locate the file.
- Double-click on the file, and click on Next.
- Click Next again, and then click Install.
Finally, the software will start installing. Don’t shut down the computer during this process.
Step 3: Connect the Silhouette Curio 2 to a Computer
A Silhouette Curio 2 machine can be connected to a computer via USB or Bluetooth. When the machine is connected, it will receive the designs and cut them. Here are both the connection methods in detail.
Method 1: USB Connection
The USB connection is the primary method for connecting a Curio 2 machine to a computer. Here is how to set up a USB connection.
- Take the USB cable from the machine’s box.
- It has two ends. Connect one into the USB port on the machine.
- Connect the other end to the USB port on the computer.
Method 2: Bluetooth Connection
Bluetooth is a wireless connection method to set up between a Curio 2 and a computer. Here are the step-by-step instructions to perform it.
On Windows
- Activate Bluetooth on Curio 2 by pressing the Bluetooth button. The Bluetooth light will flash blue.
- Go to the Start menu on the computer, and search for Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & Devices, and select the Curio 2 machine from the list of devices.
- Click the Add device option to add the machine.
On Mac
- Go to the Apple menu and select System Settings.
- Select Bluetooth and enable it. Then select the Curio 2 machine from the list of available devices.
- Finally, the computer will show the Connected or Paired option.
Step 4: Connect the Machine to the Silhouette Studio
After connecting the machine to the computer, select it in the Silhouette Studio software. Otherwise, the software will not detect the machine. Here is how to do it.
- Open the Silhouette Studio software and sign in or register (if you’re a beginner).
- Locate the Send Panel at the top of the screen, and click the icon in the bottom right corner.
- Select the Silhouette Curio 2 machine from the list of available devices.

If the Silhouette Curio 2 is not connecting to a computer via Bluetooth, it may be placed too far apart. Hence, ensure that the machine and the computer are within 6 feet of each other. Plus, check if you have enabled Bluetooth on the Curio 2.
Firmware is usually updated during the Setup of the Curio 2 machine. To update it, go to the Silhouette Studio interface and go to the Send Panel in the top-right corner. Select the machine from the device list. Once the software detects the machine, it will start updating the firmware automatically.
If the Curio 2 machine is not showing up in Silhouette Studio, it may not be turned on. Therefore, check if the machine is connected to the power supply. And if it’s a bluetooth connection, check if the Bluetooth button on the machine is enabled, and the flashing light is on.
