Silhouette Studio is the official software for Silhouette machines, including Curio 2. It enables users to create, edit, customize, and send the final designs to the machine for cutting and similar functions.

However, due to technical glitches, connection issues, and other factors, it stops working properly. As a result, it may crash or freeze, show a black screen, or experience syncing issues with the design library. All these issues are common and can be resolved by following these methods.

Problem 1: Crashing and Freezing During Work

Silhouette Studio can freeze while editing a design, making every click difficult. This issue arises when the user is working on a large and complex file, experiencing performance issues with the computer, or encountering a minor technical issue with the computer or the machine. Follow the steps below to fix this issue.

Solution 1: Use a Simple Design

A complex design is the reason behind the freezing of the Silhouette Studio. Thus, ensure the design has fewer cuts and a simple format that doesn’t interfere with the software functions. Hence, remove extra cut lines and images from the design, and check for improvements.

Solution 2: Restart the Computer and the Machine

As there could be a technical glitch in the computer or the machine, a restart can work. Here are the steps to restart both devices.

Step 1: Restart the Computer

  1. Go to the Start menu at the bottom of the screen and click the power button.
  2. Click the Restart option, and wait until the computer turns on.

Step 2: Restart the Silhouette Curio 2

  1. Disconnect the machine’s power cable.
  2. Wait for a few seconds, and reconnect the cable to the power outlet.

If the software still shows problems, it must be a computer performance problem. Check the next method.

Problem 2: Silhouette Studio showing a Blank Screen

It’s possible that you try to open the Silhouette Studio, and it shows a blank screen. It usually happens due to software cache and outdated software. Here is how to resolve the problem.

Solution 1: Close and Reopen the Software

Simply close the tab for the software and reopen it. Many times, it works, and the software starts working. You can also restart your computer. To restart:

  1. Go to the Start menu on the computer, and select the power icon.
  2. Select the Restart button, and let it restart.

Solution 2: Clear the Software Cache

Corrupted files and software cache can cause a blank screen when opening the Silhouette Studio. These files need to be eliminated from the system using these steps.

  1. Close the Silhouette Studio software on the computer.
  2. Press the Windows and R keys on the keyboard.
  3. Type %localappdata%\Silhouette America\Silhouette Studio in the run box, and press Enter.
  4. Find and delete the Preferences folder from the computer.
  5. Reopen the Silhouette Studio software.

Solution 3: Uninstall and Reinstall the Silhouette Studio

When the current version of Silhouette Studio is corrupted or outdated, it shows a blank screen. However, you can uninstall and reinstall it to get the latest version.

Step 1: Uninstall

  1. Press the Windows key on the keyboard, and search for Settings.
  2. Open Settings, and select Apps from the left sidebar.
  3. Select Installed apps from the options, and locate Silhouette Studio.
  4. Click Uninstall to remove the old version of the software.

Step 2: Reinstall

  1. Visit silhouetteamerica.com and scroll down to locate your operating system.
  2. Click on your operating system to download the software.
  3. Visit the downloads folder on the computer, and find the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click on the file, and click Next.
  5. Then, click Next, and click Install to complete the installation.
  6. Finally, open Silhouette Studio and check if it’s working fine.

Problem 3: Improve the Computer’s Performance

When the computer’s performance is slow due to the trash files, it leads to crashing or freezing of Silhouette Studio. Sometimes, other conflicting programs such as Photoshop, CorelDRAW, or Illustrator can also make the Silhouette software slow, even when it’s updated. Here are the troubleshooting steps to resolve it.

Step 1: Close Conflicting Programs

Close all the unnecessary programs and files on the computer running simultaneously with the Silhouette Studio. Also, close Silhouette Studio, and re-open it after a few seconds. Check if the application is running fine, and the freezing issue has been resolved.

Step 2: Delete the Computer’s Trash Files

Trash files and junk files occupy the computer’s space, leading to slowdown, which also affects Silhouette Studio. Here is how to do it.

  1. Type Settings in the search box at the bottom of the computer’s screen.
  2. Select System, and then select Storage.
  3. Enable Storage Sense and set it to delete trash and temporary files automatically.

It will take a while to finish. Check if the freezing is resolved.

Problem 4: Syncing Issue With The Library

Sometimes, the designs in the Silhouette Studio library don’t download or upload automatically. You try to use a design, but the library doesn’t allow you. The design fails to sync, shows errors while downloading, or some designs may even show as missing. It can happen when Silhouette Studio is not updated or when there is a weak internet connection.

Solution 1: Check the Internet Connection

When the internet connection is weak, it causes problems with the design syncing. Therefore, type internet speed test in Google’s search bar, and check if the speed is enough for downloading designs.

If the internet speed is less than required, restart the router. To restart, disconnect it from the power outlet on the wall, wait for a few minutes, and reconnect. Now, check the improvements.

Solution 2: Update the Software

When the Silhouette Studio is not updated, syncing issues with the design library can occur. Therefore, ensure that you’re using the latest version of the software. Here are the steps to update it.

  1. Open the Silhouette Studio program on your computer.
  2. Navigate to the Upgrade menu at the top and select ‘Help’.
  3. Click Apply Upgrade Edition or Upgrade Silhouette Studio.
  4. Sign in to your Silhouette account using your email address and password.
  5. Finally, select the “Apply” or “Activate” option to complete the upgrade.

Silhouette Studio will soon be updated to the latest version. Note: You can update the software from time to time to resolve the common issues.
