The cutting blade in the Cricut Maker 3 can get stuck due to improper insertion in the carriage (which holds blades), dirty blade housing, or stuck material. When this issue happens, the computer displays the “cutting blade is stuck” error on the screen, and the machine fails to cut at all or cuts improperly. You can fix a stuck blade with these methods.

Method 1: Check the Material Settings on Design Space

When you select the wrong material in the Design Space, the cutting blade will not work. Use these steps to check the material.
  1. After completing any design, click the Make It button on the Design Space.
  2. Then, select the Continue option to select the material. You’ll see the “Set Material Base” option on the screen.
  3. The selected material will be visible on the screen. Check if it matches the loaded material.
  4. If it doesn’t match, select the material you’re using with the Cricut Maker 3.
If the material is correctly set and still showing an error, check the next method.  Note: While loading the material on the machine, the machine displays the recommended blade type. Ensure that you use the same blade. Otherwise, the Maker 3 won’t cut material or will cut it too deeply.

Method 2: Clean the Cutting Blade

Step 1: Turn Off the Machine

  1. Press the power button on the machine to turn it off.
  2. Disconnect its power cord from the power outlet.

Step 2: Remove the Cutting Blade

To remove the cutting blade, remove the blade housing, a cylindrical unit made of metal and plastic. The blade is inside the housing.
  1. Open the machine’s lid, and you’ll see two clamps inside – A and B.
  2. As the clamp B is for housing blades, open it gently.
  3. After opening the clamp, you’ll see the blade housing; gently pull it out from the machine.

Step 3: Clean the Cutting Blade

  1. After removing the blade, check its bottom side for any damage.
  2. Press the plunger (a button at the top) on the blade to pop out the blade’s tip.
  3. Now, check if there is any dirt, debris, or material stuck at the tip.
  4. If you find anything stuck, clean that with a cloth or cotton.

Step 4: Re-Insert the Cutting Blade

  1. Once you clean the blade, put that back into clamp B and allow it to fit properly.
  2. Then, close the machine’s lid slowly.

Step 5: Turn On the Machine

  1. Reconnect the power cable of the machine to the power switch.
  2. Then, press the power button to turn the machine on.
If the error persists, move on to the next method.

Method 3: Replace the Cutting Blade

Over time, the cutting blade can get damaged and needs to be replaced. Here is how to do it:
  1. Turn off the Cricut Maker 3 machine.
  2. Then, open the machine’s lid and remove the blade housing gently from clamp B.
  3. Press the button on the blade housing to release the cutting blade.
  4. Pull out the blade and remove it.
  5. Take another blade and insert it into the blade housing from the top.
  6. Now, re-insert the blade housing into the Maker 3 and close the machine’s lid.
  7. Turn on the Cricut Maker 3.
Now, start cutting again with your Maker 3.
