The Cricut Maker may encounter a few issues over time, including producing unusual sounds like grinding or clicking, often caused by stuck blades in the carriage. It may also fail to cut fabric or other materials properly due to wrong settings or an unsuitable cutting mat. If you have been facing these problems, check out their solutions here.

Issue 1: Cricut Maker Not Cutting Fabric Properly

The Cricut Maker has a rotary blade that cuts fabric effectively. However, it may sometimes fail to cut fabric properly for many reasons.

Check the main reasons a Cricut Maker does not cut fabric correctly:

  • Soft, stretchy fabric may move excessively during cutting, which leads to imprecise results.
  • The rotary blade gets dull or dirty with time.
  • You’re using the wrong type of Cricut cutting mat.
  • You didn’t set the right material on the Cricut settings.

Any of these reasons can prevent the rotary blade from working properly. Fortunately, you can easily fix this problem.

Solution 1: Use a Pink FabricGrip Mat

Using the wrong type of machine mat can cause cutting issues. Hence, you must use the FabricGrip mat. It will help the fabric stick well and be cut precisely. You can also use a brayer roller (a small roller) to make the fabric sit flat on the mat. Try to cut the fabric again. If your Cricut Maker is not working properly, check out the next method.

Solution 2: Check the Rotary Blade

A dirty or improperly installed rotary blade can cause cutting-related issues. Here are the steps for checking the blade.

Step 1: Turn off the Cricut Maker

  1. First, unload the mat by pressing the Load button on the top of the Cricut Maker.
  2. Then, press the power button on the Cricut Maker to turn off the machine.
  3. Now, disconnect the machine’s power cable from the power switch on the wall.

Step 2: Open the Clamp B

The Cricut Maker has two clamps—Clamp A and Clamp B. The rotary blade is placed in Clamp B, which is located on the right side of the machine and holds the blade. To open this clamp, slowly pull out the grey cover.

Step 3: Remove the Rotary Blade

  1. After opening the clamp, take out the rotary blade by gently pulling it towards you.
  2. Check if dirt is entrapped. Try spinning the blade with your hands. If it is not spinning smoothly, it needs to be cleaned.

Step 4: Clean the Rotary Blade

  1. Use a dry cloth to wipe the rotary blade gently.
  2. Then, check if it is spinning smoothly.

Step 5: Reinstall the Rotary Blade

  1. Install the rotary blade back into Clamp B.
  2. Ensure that it fits perfectly and does not stick above the clamp.
  3. Close the clamp with the grey cover.

Step 6: Turn On the Machine

  1. Connect the power cord of the Cricut Maker to the power switch on the wall.
  2. Press the power button on top of the machine to turn it on.

Issue 2: Cricut Maker Is Making Unusual Noises

Sometimes, your machine may produce unusual noises, such as grinding or clicking, indicating a potential problem. The main reasons for these noises in the Cricut Maker include:

  • A piece of paper or any other object is stuck inside the machine.
  • Loose clamp screws can create grinding or clicking noises during operation.

Solution: Check the Carriage of Cricut Maker

When the crafting machine makes different noises, it can be due to loose screws and blades. Hence, check the carriage. The carriage is where your tools, such as blades, pens, or markers, are placed.

Step 1: Turn Off the Machine

  1. Press the power button at the top of the machine to turn it off.
  2. Then, unplug the power cord of the Cricut Maker from the power switch on the wall.

Step 2: Clean the Carriage

The carriage is the part of the crafting machine that holds the blades and the pen. This carriage moves left and right. Learn how to check the carriage:

  1. Try moving it with your hands from side to side. If it doesn’t feel smooth, dirt must be entrapped beneath it.
  2. Use a brush or a piece of cloth to remove the dirt buildup beneath the carriage system.
  3. If the screws are loose, tighten them as well.

Note: Don’t use a wet cloth to clean the carriage. It is an electrical system, and using a wet cloth will risk rust and damage.

Step 3: Turn On the Machine

  1. Connect the power cord of the Cricut Maker to the power switch on the wall.
  2. Then, press the power button on the top of the machine.
