The Cricut Joy blade may not cut materials properly when it becomes dull. In this situation, users must check the blade for dirt and debris, ensure that the blade is correctly set, and replace the blade if necessary. Here are the detailed instructions on how to make the blade work effectively.

Note: The Cricut Joy uses only the Premium Fine-Point Blade as the standard blade for all-purpose cutting.

Step 1: Check if the Blade is Dirty

When the blade inside the machine is dirty with dust and debris, it won’t process accurately, leading to inaccurate cutting. Follow the steps below to clean the blade.

  1. Turn off the machine by disconnecting it from the main power switch.
  2. Remove the blade housing by opening the latch on the carriage.
  3. Take out the blade housing and press the plunger at the top to release the blade.
  4. Check if the blade is dirty or has material stuck to it.
  5. Make a ball from aluminium foil, and stab the blade into it 15-20 times. It will remove the trapped dirt.
  6. Now, reinsert the blade from downwards into the blade housing.
  7. Place the blade housing in its place and close it with a latch.

Try cutting material with the blade. If the issue persists, check out the next step.

Step 2: Replace the Blade

Since the Cricut Joy uses only one type of blade for all materials, it may get dull over time and with frequent use. Hence, replacing this blade is the ideal way to fix this problem.

  1. Remove the blade using the same steps as the above method.
  2. Now, take a new blade and insert it into the blade housing from downwards, keeping the tip at the bottom.
  3. The blade housing will automatically adjust it.
  4. Place the blade housing in its place and cover it with the latch cover.

Now, the new sharp blade will cut materials thoroughly.

Note: Cricut Joy is compatible with only lighter materials such as vinyl, cardstock, paper, HTV, etc. Hence, if you use tough materials like leather and wood, the blade won’t cut as well because they are not designed for such materials.
