Cricut Design Space is the design software for Cricut Joy and other Cricut cutting machines. It helps users in creating customized designs from the available templates and send them to the machine for final cutting or other related functions. However, this software can exhibit certain technical issues, such as slow performance, freezing, and lagging during work.

Here are the troubleshooting methods to fix the problem with Design Space.

Problem 1: Design Space Working Slowly

The main reasons behind this problem are:

  • Poor internet connection
  • Too many apps are open in the PC’s background.
  • Heavy project files

Solution 1: Check the Internet Connection

If you’re using an Ethernet cable, check if the cable is well-connected to the computer. And if you’re using a WiFi router connection, run the online speed test on the computer. If the speed is low, it is the reason for the slowdown.

Another method to check the WiFi connection is to check the bottom right corner of the PC. If it’s showing a WiFi icon and a connected message, the internet is fine. If there is a sign of a globe, the internet connection is unavailable.

Solution 2: Delete the Other Apps on the PC

When there are too many apps running in the PC’s background, it disturbs the Design Space. Check if there are too many tabs open on the computer. Close the programs running on the PC and solely use Design Space if possible.

Solution 3: Close and Reopen the Design Space

The Design Space may slow down when it is overused for complex projects. Hence, save the project file, and then close it. After 30 seconds, reload it on the computer.

Problem 2: Design Space Lagging and Freezing

Design Space lagging during work is not so common. However, if it becomes frequent and unstoppable, there is something causing the issue.

These are some of the reasons:

  • Poor internet connection
  • Out-of-date Design Space software

Solution 1: Restart the WiFi Router, Computer, and Machine

If the lagging and freezing of the Design Space are frequent, consider restarting all the devices. It will fix the minor technical problems in them.

Step 1: Restart the Computer

  1. Click the Start menu on the computer’s taskbar at the bottom left.
  2. Click the power button, and select the Restart button.

Wait for the computer to restart.

Step 2: Restart the WiFi Router

  1. Disconnect the router’s cable from the main power switch.
  2. Wait for 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable.

Solution 2: Update the Design Space

The Design Space’s performance can be affected when it’s not updated. In this situation, update this app by following the steps mentioned here:

  1. Close the Design Space on the computer.
  2. Click the Windows icon on the computer’s taskbar and search for Settings.
  3. Select Apps from the left sidebar, and then select Installed apps.
  4. Select Cricut Design Space, click the three dots next to it, and click Uninstall.
  5. Visit design.cricut.com and select Cricut Joy, and check the box to accept the terms of use.
  6. Click the Download button, and let the app download on the computer.
  7. Open the Downloads folder on the computer and double-click on the file to allow it to run on the PC.
